We are proud to announce that our Avencast Dev Kit is available for download here!

The Avencast Development Kit contains the complete set of tools required to modify or add new game content to Avencast – Rise of the Mage, such as:
• The level editor
• The graphics import and export tools
• Visual effects editor
• All the scripting and configuration files in an unencrypted version, so you can modify:
o Quests
o Monster behaviour and attributes
o The hero’s skills and attributes
o Items, equipment
o …every other game content

Furthermore the complete reference documentation of all Avencast engine commands and parameters is provided together with several tutorials explaining step by step how to use the level editor and modify game content.

Due to the complex nature of Action RPG’s the Avencast Dev Kit addresses primarily enthusiastic gamers or hobby game designers with basic knowledge of game development and/or programming. Yet, the completeness of tools theoretically opens up the possibility to develop an entirely new game.

This is so incredible !!! Thank you sooo much!!!! I'm going to try this at once !!!

I downloaded this tool and have been playing with it for a couple weeks. I think I have a pretty good understanding of how things work and I'm playing with a concept for a small series of levels involving an escape from the land of the dead.

The tools are very powerful, though I do suggest some prior programming experience if you want to do much with dialogues and quests. These use a C-style syntax and switch statements. This may be a little discouraging for n00b (and I use that word in a friendly way) modders but is pretty easy to snap up if you're willing to learn.

I'm not sure if I'll have time to build something with enough shine to release to the masses but I can probably help answer some questions for people getting started.

Avencast is a sweet game so here's hoping the community will jump in with some new levels!

Do you think you could help me, or just redirect me to some sites where I can learn how to code? I would love to be able to make new levels and be able to code. I am willing to learn, no matter how hard it is. Thanks a ton.

You don't really have to know a ton about coding to create simple levels for Avencast and many other games. You just have to be willing to read the tutorials and information that comes with the modding tools and spend a lot of time testing an idea and then playing it to see if it works. A knowledge of programming concepts is definitely helpful but I'd say it's not required.

As far as generally learning to code...you have to be more specific. There are hundreds of programming languages and each one is has strengths and weaknesses for different tasks.

With the incredible array of information on the web you can learn how to program anything in any language. You'll find, however, that experienced programmers will not be likely to answer questions unless they are very specific.

Asking a question like "how do I program video games?" won't get very useful answers if it garners a response.
Asking specific questions (on a forum about the language you are coding in) and including snippits of code, however basic, will usually get friendly answers.

And, as always, Google is your friend.

We're a small group of players, whose hobby is to translate non-Hungarian games to Hungarian language. As we just found Avencast, the only question is:

Can Avencast be translated?
If so, does the developer-kit contain the necessary tools?
